Backtest First. Everything Else Second.
HISTORICAL CANDLES · NO CODE · SAME FORM AS PAPER AND LIVE
A strategy that has not survived history has no business near live markets. Crow Trader's backtester runs any of its nine strategies against historical candles for the pair and period you choose — no Python, no notebooks, no code.
The killer detail is continuity: backtest, paper, and live share one strategy form. The exact configuration that backtested well starts as paper with one click, and later as live with the same settings. No translation layer where errors hide.
Honest backtesting knobs
- Both fees, every run — each backtest counts the buy fee and the sell fee, values any position still open at the end, and measures Max drawdown from the equity curve. Every run saves its trade list.
- Optional slippage — a switch (off by default) makes each fill about 0.06 % worse in backtests and paper trading. Live trades are never changed by it.
- Strategy parameters — timeframes, deviations, channel lengths, gains, stops, trailing, RSI confirms, cooldowns, DCA. Each strategy documents which markets it suits and which chew it up.
- Per-strategy market notes — the app tells you, for example, that Donchian Breakout wants expansion and that tight ranges will poke the channel and reverse. The docs argue with you before the market does.
The workflow that keeps you honest
Backtest a configuration → start the same form as paper on live prices → compare. When paper diverges hard from the backtest, the market regime changed or the settings were curve-fit — either way you learned it with fake money. Only after both agree does a license, your API keys, and a confirm switch put it live, spot only.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- Do I need to code to backtest?
- No. Every strategy is a form with documented fields. Set values, pick a pair and period, run. The Strategy Guide inside the app explains every knob.
- Why do backtest and live results differ?
- Slippage, partial fills, and regime change. Crow Trader backtests already count both fees and value open positions; the optional slippage switch adds fill friction, and the paper stage exists to catch the rest before money does. A backtest never predicts future results.
- Is there a free way to try Crow Trader?
- Yes, two. Evaluation mode is free and unlocks paper trading and backtesting with live trading locked. The Free Weex license (register through the Crow Trader referral and honor your Weex UID) unlocks Weex-only live trading when you enable it. The Full license is $199 paid in ADA and unlocks every supported venue.
- Does Crow Trader run in the cloud or on my computer?
- On your computer. Crow Trader is a desktop application for macOS (Apple Silicon) and Windows. Market data, paper fills, and live orders stay on your machine. There is no hosted account, no pooled funds, and no cloud copy of your API keys.
- Is Crow Trader finished software?
- Crow Trader is a public beta. Expect bugs and updates. Paper trading and backtesting are the recommended starting point, and past performance — paper or live — never guarantees future results.
- Can a trading bot guarantee profits?
- No — and any bot that promises profits should worry you. Crypto trading involves substantial risk of loss. Crow Trader gives you paper trading and backtesting so you can measure a strategy honestly before any real money is involved. It is software, not financial advice.
